Honey brown hair is having a moment - and it’s easy to see why. But what is it, would you suit it, and how do you get it from the darkest shades? In this blog Laura Elliott, Head of Education at Neäl & Wølf shares everything you need to know about the shade that’s as sweet as it sounds.
1. What is the honey brown hair colour?
Honey brown sits somewhere between dark blonde and golden brunette tones. It uses the depth of brown hair, whilst appearing golden in appearance, to create a hair shade that literally makes you glow. The effect? A natural warmth that looks great on hair, no matter the time of year.
2. Who suits honey brown hair?
Honey brown hair is very versatile, so complements a range of skin tones. The warm undertones work particularly well with dark-medium complexions, mixing to brighten your look. Honey brown also compliments brown eyes as the browns work in harmony, and those with green eyes can choose this shade for a clash of colour. 3. What is the difference between honey brown and honey blonde?
The base tones are very different as honey brown is much more brunette, whereas honey blonde is lighter. Both shades have the similar golden warmth of honey, but honey brown is a deeper, darker tone than the brighter honey blonde. 4. How do you get honey brown hair?
The best way to get honey brown hair is to visit a professional, who can create a tone that is just right for you. They’ll usually use a blend of professional colour techniques that consider your current hair colour and texture, such as balayage, soft highlights or an all-over colour. Neäl & Wølf salons can recommend our new GLAZE colour, 6NW. GLAZE is a True Demi Toner which leaves your hair with a super shiny new shade, ideal for creating honey brown hair. 5. Does honey brown hair need bleach?
If you have very dark hair then you might need bleach to achieve the perfect honey brown shade. Bleach can be used to lighten your hair, allowing the honey tones to shine through. However, this process may not always be needed - be sure to speak to your colourist about alternatives.
6. Can you get honey brown from dark brown or black hair?
Yes, but it usually takes a bit more effort! To go from dark brown or black hair to honey brown, your stylist will likely lighten your base to make the warm, golden tones more visible. Every case is different, so talk to your stylist about the options available to you before you take the plunge.
7. Is honey brown hair high maintenance?
Honey brown is actually low maintenance compared to other, lighter shades. As well as visiting your salon for regular touch ups, you can keep your hair looking salon fresh by applying a hair mask like our HYDRATE Moisture Mask to intensely condition your tresses, leaving your locks looking and feeling shiny and healthy. We use a blend of betaine, glycerine and natural oils to lock in moisture and counteract dry strands. Browse our whole range of products: HYDRATE Moisture Collection
