When it comes to hair extensions, there’s a wealth of options – clips-ins, tapes, hot/cold bonds, weaves and more! So it’s no surprise that with so many options, over a third of women (34%) use hair extensions as a regular part of their beauty regime, while 93% of respondents would consider wearing hair extensions in the future.*

It’s recommended to do your own research first to find which are the best for you hair and needs, but to help you along your way, we’ve answered some of the most commonly asked questions around hair extensions.

Do have Extensions Cause Damage?

High quality extensions, when applied correctly and safely with the right aftercare do not damage hair.

How Long Do Hair Extensions Last?

Invest in high quality human hair extensions and on average they will last around 9-12 months if you follow the aftercare advise around maintaining and caring for your hair extensions.

How Often Should I Get My Hair Extensions Refitted?

This depends on the application of your hair extensions. Weaves (sew-in) generally need refitting every 6-8 weeks, where as micro ring hair extensions should be refitted between 3 and 4 months. We'd recommend taking your stylists advice as other factors play a part in how long your extensions will last, such as how quickly your hair grows, your maintenance, and hair type.

Can You Swim With Hair Extensions?

Yes! However, it’s best to braid your hair before swimming to avoid tangles, and apply a leave-in conditioner, focusing on mid-lengths and ends to create a protective barrier from the chlorine and chemicals in the water.

What are the DON’TS of hair extensions?

- Don’t go to sleep with wet hair

- Don’t over condition the base of your extensions as this can weaken the bonds/fittings

- Don’t brush too aggressively & remember to hold the base when brushing

DO use the right products to care for your new hair extensions Hair extensions are likely to respond differently to your natural hair. It’s recommended to only use sulphate-free haircare products on extensions, and using a hair mask, such as the Neal & Wolf Hydrate Moisture Mask to maintain the condition of the hair. Neal & Wolf’s haircare is free from sulphates, and we have a collection of products recommended for hair extensions.
