With the hashtag #curlyhairroutine gaining 3.1 billion views on TikTok, curls are soaring in popularity. The right haircare routine can revolutionise your natural curls, so our expert stylist Laura Elliott has shared some top tips on how to look after your hair. Read on to find out more.
Step one: Find the Right Shampoo
Did you know that different hair types play a big role in finding the best shampoo? Whether your hair is curly, fine, straight or dry it’s worthwhile taking time to figure out which product is best for your hair. Curly hair can be naturally quite dry so needs ingredients packed with moisture to achieve glossy curls.
Not all shampoos are suitable for curly hair, so avoid any shampoos that contain mineral oils, as this ingredient gives hair short-term shine, but in the long run it can cause major build up resulting in dryness and irritation. Step Two: Brush With the Right Technique
Myth: people with curls should never brush their hair. In fact, you just need to find the right brush for you! Brushing and finding the right technique to detangle hair can be difficult, especially with curls. If you have curly, coily or wavy hair you must find the right brush and products for your hair type to ease the process.
Knotty hair is often a sign that hair is dry, as when hair is lacking in moisture it is prone to tangles and matting can occur. Hair is most fragile when it is wet, so you should brush it when it is dry from the ends of the hair, upwards. You want the brush to feel like it is gliding through your hair and not creating tension. Before brushing, whilst your hair is still damp, use a lotion or oil to leave your curls shiny.
