Why is it Important to Use Cruelty Free Shampoo & Hair Care Products?

5 Reasons to Make the Change

If you are looking for ways to improve the health and well-being of animals, there is a simple change you can make today: purchase cruelty-free products. If you're new to ethical purchasing or just want a reminder about why your choices are beneficial, read on. Below, Laura Elliott, our head of education lists five reasons to choose cruelty free shampoo, conditioner and hair care styling products.

1. Kinder to animals

Animal care is at the heart of cruelty free products. Although it's illegal to test on animals in the UK, horrifically, many brands still test on animals in other countries across the globe. This practice is extremely distressing for animals but is pointless in a world where there are other solutions available. By choosing cruelty free products you make an important decision not to support brands that test on animals. This makes an impact, taking steps towards a cruelty free world.

2. Less toxic

Often, cruelty free products are usually made with simple, more natural ingredients that have been proven safe without animal testing. The products are non-toxic, preventing harmful chemicals passing through your skin into your body. This often means that cruelty free shampoo and hair care products are free from disruptive ingredients like sulphates and parabens. For more information on bad ingredients in hair products, read our blog: Harmful Ingredients in Hair Products to Avoid

3. Environmentally friendly

As many cruelty free products use natural ingredients, they have a smaller environmental footprint. When non-cruelty free products are disposed of, toxic chemicals can enter the air and soil, contributing towards greenhouse gases and pollution. Cruelty free brands are also more likely to make other ethical decisions such as recycled packaging and vegan ingredients.

4. Save money

As you seek out cruelty free brands, you'll naturally eliminate many of your options. Fewer choices mean you’re less likely to waste money on unnecessary items. For example, you may only need one type of shampoo at a time, rather than switching between a few different options. When you make mindful purchases, you’re also making a decision to support a business that has great values.

5. Makes a difference

Small acts go a long way! When you purchase from a cruelty free brand, you’re taking custom away from a business that experiments on animals. In the long run, this means that these harmful brands won’t have as much money to support their cruel practices. This contributes towards a cruelty free future, pushing towards the prospect of animal testing being illegal worldwide.

Is Neäl & Wølf cruelty-free?

Yes! Neäl & Wølf is Leaping Bunny approved by Cruelty Free International, the leading organisation working to end animal testing. This certifies that all our products, raw materials, and ingredients are not tested on animals during any stage of product development and manufacturing.

Our products are also sulphate free, paraben free, TEA free and DEA free with a selection of vegan friendly products including our full professional Colour range. In future, all new product launches will be 100% vegan friendly and we’re working to reformulate our current product roster to be vegan friendly too.

We are also using new and improved packaging made from a minimum of 35% PCR Plastic, meaning it has already been recycled before use, helping to reduce single-use plastic.
