There is no denying the natural beauty of Cannes. From the picturesque coastline setting, the stunning harbour lined with luxury yachts, to the beautiful fashion boutiques and top restaurants that fill the city's streets, there's nowhere quite like it. But Cannes only really comes alive at this time of year when the film festival takes place and the good and the great of the film industry descend upon the town.
Every year the clothes, make up and hair of the world's most famous women are captured and featured in magazines and newspapers around the world. At Neal & Wolf we see Cannes as the perfect opportunity to celeb spot and look out for some sophisticated style inspiration. Here is our review of the best style on show at Cannes 2014.
One of the most interesting things from a fashion and particularly a hair styling point of view at Cannes is the number of different events and parties that happen within a few days as it is a festival and not a one night only event like the Oscars or BAFTA's. It means that the stars come armed with a versatile wardrobe and need their hair to match as they change looks from each event. A couple of women who managed to create multiple beautiful looks were Blake Lively and Suki Waterhouse. Suki started with a side-swept Veronica Lake inspired hair combined with a post box red lip gloss at one evening party in Cannes but quickly adapted her look for another sophisticated event by switching to a loose ponytail swept to the side. For another red carpet event Suki spiced things up with a bedhead style updo. This is all the more impressive when you consider that Suki is currently growing out her trademark fringe hairstyle, and there was no sign of the awkward inbetween stage at all! Blake Lively also managed the transition from one elegant Cannes hairstyle to the next with expert ease. First up she teamed up glossy hair waves, dewy skin, pink lipstick and intense eyes with a beautiful white lace and sequin gown. Next up Blake appeared at an evening event in a dramatic claret dress with with triangular cutout at the back. The look was complimented by a tightly swept back hairstyle featuring a fun braided fishtail at the back. This really was one of the knock-out looks of the week with smoky black eye makeup, glossy pink lips and delicate large statement earrings completing the pretty picture. Blake went for the hat trick of successful looks at Cannes with a striking black and white strapless dress paired with a side swept parting and large bun. If you are looking to achieve your own glamourous hair styles you should look no further than the Neal & Wolf range of haircare and hair styling products available from our online store.
