Summer is finally here and we have been enjoying a mini heat wave across the UK. The hot weather means a change of wardrobe and quite often the need for a more versatile mix of hairstyles too. Whether you are spending a day shopping in the city, heading for a day at the beach or relaxing at a family BBQ, being out in the sun brings it's own challenges to your hair and there is certainly an art to dressing and styling your hair for those hot summer days. Today we look at some of our favourite hairstyles that will keep you looking cool this summer!
Fishtail Braid A fishtail braid is the perfect way to stay cool on hot summers day. Avoid frizz and flyaway hairs by keeping it sleek and polished. This look works seamlessly from the beach or pool to night time party.
How to style the look: Blow dry your hair using fingers until it's three-quarters of the way dry, then add in mousse from the roots. Finish blow-drying and smooth the strands with a paddle brush. The next step is to begin to create the fishtail. First create a deep side parting and sweep the rest of your hair over to the opposite side, then divide the hair into two sections. Start from the top and work your way down by taking a thin piece of hair from the outside right section and joining it with a piece of hair from the left hand section. Next do the reverse and follow the same steps, continuing until you reach the bottom of your hair - leave a 1 inch section at the bottom to secure the braid with a band.
Long Waves Long, loose waves are the perfect mix for your summer hair styling. This look is casual, fun and very easy to style.
How to style this look: Start with clean hair and let it air-dry. Next divide the hair into a few large sections before using a curling iron on each part. It is important to get waves and not curls if you want to achieve a modern on trend look and avoid something that looks old fashioned and dated. To get this effect you need to hold the iron vertically and wrap sections of hair down the barrel of the curling iron. Use a balm or wax and run through your hair with your fingers to separate strands and create a more laid back look.
Delicate Side Braid A delicate side braid like the look made iconic by Lauren Conran is a great style for summer evenings. This look is sexy, young and sophisticated.
How to style this look: Start by applying a smoothing lotion, like Neal & Wolf's Smoothing Blow Dry Balm to damp hair and then blow-dry with a large round brush. Next create a deep side part in you hair allowing and start your braid about 5 inches away from it. Secure the braid to the back of the head a couple of small pins.
