Great night for style at the British Academy Awards

It kicked off with the rock band Kasabian playing on stage wearing some unusual attire -  a mismatch of suits and enormous green coats, not quite fitting the black tie bill. And then Stephen Fry wandered through the audience in his penguin suit at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to reach the stage and begin proceedings.

When it got down to the business end of things, The Grand Budapest Hotel was a big winner with 5 awards as was Boyhood which picked up the best film award.  The Theory Of Everything and Whiplash also won three awards apiece.

On the personal side of things the leading actress award went to Julianne Moore for Still Alice while leading actor went to Eddie Redmayne for The Theory Of Everything and best director went to the man behind the camera on Boyhood, Richard Linklater. Wes Anderson picked up best original screenplay for the The Grand Budapest Hotel.

An appearance on stage by Stephen Hawking, who's life story is told in The Theory of Everything, brought a standing ovation from the crowd and he repaid them with one of the best moments of comedy on the night by claiming he was not only smarter than host Stephen Fry but also better looking.

Of course what we are equally interested in here at Neal & Wolf is who were the big winners in the hair and fashion stakes at this years awards? This year we were spoiled for choice with a number of sophisticated and glamorous efforts by the world's best actors.

Plunging necklines and bright colours were on show in force on the red carpet, as was a number of smart bespoke suits from the leading men.

The best dressed couple was a close battle between friends and award nominee rivals Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne. Eddie wore Girogio Armani while wife Hannah wore Valentino. Benedict Cumberbatch wore bespoke Alexander McQueen while Fiancee Sophie Hunter wore a Maison Margiela Artisanal gown.

Other notable outfits were Rosamund Pike, in Roland Mouret, up-and-coming actress Lea Seydoux in an eye catching long and flowing canary yellow dress.

Reese Witherspoon and best actress Julianne Moore both went for low neckline dresses showing of some skin. Reese went with a bold purple figure hugging dress while Julianne wore a show stopping red.

British actress Felicity Jones looked gorgeous in a pale pink and black gown with floral details. Her hair tied up and parted at the front added to the elegant look.

We must also give a special mention to the pregnant Keira Knightley who looked stunning  wearing Giambattista Valli Couture with a blooming floral influence.
